Nené (also known as jenipapo in Portuguese or Genipa americana) is a sacred plant native to the Amazon rainforest. Indigenous tribes such as the Yawanawá, Huni Kuin, and others have used it for generations as a natural dye for body and face painting in rituals, ceremonies, and healing practices.

The pigment is made from the unripe fruit of the Nené tree. When the juice is extracted and applied to the skin, it gradually turns a deep blue-black color as it reacts with the air. The designs can last for up to a week or more, fading naturally over time.

More than decoration, these body paintings carry deep symbolic and spiritual meaning. They can serve as protection, expressions of identity, connection to ancestral spirits, visions, and inner strength. Each pattern or symbol painted on the body often tells a story or conveys a message from the spiritual world.

Our Nené dye is 100% natural, handcrafted in collaboration with indigenous families who carry this ancient knowledge with great respect and care. By using it, you are not only embracing a powerful plant medicine but also supporting the preservation of Amazonian traditions and communities.
